Week 4 Recap
This week was memorable in that it was our first week teaching a few
subjects. Along with Bible, I taught Math and Science. In math, we are
learning about geometry (by far, NOT my greatest subject)–like lines and perimeter and area. I am
thankful it is only 3rd grade geometry! In science we are learning about ecosystems and the
various jobs and parts. It was a little rough this week because I have not seen her teach many
subjects before this week, so I didn’t really know what routines and expectations the students
were used to. My teacher was very encouraging in telling me that I am doing a great job, but she
understands the difficulty of not knowing how to teach her class. The end of the week did get
better and I’m looking to next week with fresh eyes and prayers that it will be smoother.
After kicking off Monday with teaching, Tuesday continued on fairly normal. Although,
Kyla accidentally got locked out of our condo Tuesday night. She had gone to an FBBC friend’s
condo to use their wifi to work on school while I went to bed early. She forgot her condo keys at
home, my phone was on silent that night, and she couldn’t reach me. Thankfully the Guahan
Condos are full (majority) with Harvest people. She was able to sleep on the couch of some other
young Harvest teachers’ and got ahold of me Wednesday
morning.
That added to the excitement of Wednesday
morning. After I let Kyla in, I found a cockroach right outside
my bedroom door. It was about 3” long! It definitely scared
me. I killed it and flushed it down the toilet. My teacher told
me that they will come in through the drains, especially
when it is raining (which it did last night), so now I will close
our drains at night to prevent that. And now I’m nervous
about finding more of them–they’re so gross!🫣
Thursday, teaching and school was much better.
Kyla and I are both getting used to teaching and trying out
some ideas and activities with our classes. After school, we went to our first Young Pros night at
one of the youth pastor’s houses. Young Pros is Harvest’s young adult group that meets every

Thursday at 6 pm. They eat, sing, play a game, do a Bible study, and pray together. Kyla and I went
and enjoyed some fun fellowship with their young adults as they kicked off a new study over
Colossians.
Friday was Dr. Seuss day at school, which was such a fun way to end the week. Kids could
come to school dressed up as any Dr. Suess character. Throughout the day, Cat in the Hat came
around to every classroom and read a book to them and even left a special treat for each student.
Fridays can be a little crazy because it’s the end of the week, but over all, I think it was a pretty
good day. As for the weekend, I do not have any plans, but I am hoping to get all of next week’s
lesson plans done & go to a bridal shower.

Prayer Requests &
Praises
1. Teaching – I will be full-time
teaching this coming week
(😝which is a lot)!
2. Critters – Kyla and I have had a
problem with little gnat-ant things
appearing in our condo for no
reason (we are not living in a dirty
condo). I also am hoping not to
find any more cockroaches in our
apartment! Please pray we can kill
the gnat-ant things and prevent cockroaches and any other further critters.
3. Student Problem – one of my students got in trouble at the end of this week. I was not the one
who dealt with his situation, but he needs prayer to be more kind and loving to others and that
God would work in his heart. His name is Tehyun (Tay-yoon).
4. School Work (Faith & Harvest)
5. Wifi
6. Being a blessing to those around us.
7. **My teacher is very encouraging about my progress so far!
8. **I received some financial aid money for school!
9. **I signed a teaching contractfor Grand View Christian School for Fall 2025!
10. **Halfway through studentteaching (29 days till I get back, 40 days till I graduate)

Guam Culture & Facts
● People love spam.
● Traditional Chamorro food includes barbeque chicken
on a stick and red rice.
● Geckos are friendly creatures that will eat spiders and
other insects in our homes. So if you find one, it is
nothing to worry about–we’ve had 2 very tiny ones in
our condo.
● Guam is made up of 43% Chamorro, 23% Filipino, 15%
other ethnicities, 14% Caucasian, 5% other Pacific
Islander. It is the melting pot of Micronesia.
● Guam is the country, and although I would say there is one major city with many suburbs (my
area), they are actually considered villages. My “village” is Mongmong-Toto-Maite.
