Meet Stephen, Zambia

Stephen is 10 years old and in the third grade. His dad passed away and since his mother could not care for him, he came to live with his grandmother in 2021. A missionary saw the condition of the grandma’s home and contacted BCH to see if we could help. With the help of some churches and individuals, we were able to build a new house for this family. We call this one of our granny homes in Zambia.

 

Stephen struggles a bit with academics because he was never grounded in school until Bringing Children Hope sponsored him. But as he is being privately tutored to read his local language, he works hard to try to catch up. He doesn’t stop until he has finished his lessons. Stephen tries to please his grandmother and tutors. He is quiet, a bit shy, and yet is committed to be involved wherever others are learning. BCH has opened up a whole world of potential for Stephen, especially as he gains the ability to read and write. He never would have achieved this in the public school where he was overlooked. His favorite subject is social studies. He enjoys making toys. He would like to become a Pastor in the future.

A welcoming community space is being created at 354 West Street, Valparaiso, Indiana. The Hope Hub Ministry will strengthen families, empower parents, and provide children with a nurturing environment to grow and thrive.

What Hope Hub Will Offer

The Hope Hub is designed as a welcoming space where parents can learn, grow, and connect while their children play in a safe and enriching environment. Here’s how it will make a difference:

  • A Space for Learning: Parents will have access to over 240 courses covering topics like behavioral challenges, budgeting, childbirth, and more. Each completed course earns them “Hope Bucks,” which they can use to purchase toys, furniture, snacks, and supplies for their families.
  • Empowerment Through Earning: By using Hope Bucks, parents gain pride of providing for their children, fostering self-esteem and resilience.
  • Building Community: The Hub will offer families opportunities to connect with others by navigating similar challenges and by linking them to valuable community resources.
  • Gathering and Growing: From classes and support groups to special events, the Hope Hub will serve as a gathering place for families—all free of charge.

How you can Help the Hub

✔ Join in Prayer & Support: Lift up the families we serve.

✔ Volunteers can help set up the Hub, mentor parents, assist with childcare, or help stock our resource center.

✔ Donate Essential Items: Families earn Hope Bucks by completing courses, which they can use to purchase diapers, toys, furniture, snacks, and household essentials. Your donations help us fill our shelves!
