A brief look back at 2023, and what is already happening in 2024!
February 2024
Happy New Year! If you have been following our prayer letters, then you already know that 2023 was a year of blessing and growth for Emmaus Road Baptist Church. After some difficult years of sowing the seed, the Lord really produced a harvest. We were able to see several people saved, baptized, and added to the church. It may not exactly have been Pentecost, but for us it sure felt like it! Our regular attendance doubled over the last year, and we are praying that it does so again in the year to come.

We finished up 2023 on some high notes! Andrea hosted a ladies’ tea party which was attended by over 40 ladies. It was an evangelistic effort, and there were several unsaved family members and neighbors who chose to attend. Each year this event seems to grow in size, and we are thankful for the opportunity to present the Gospel through it!

As Christmas was approaching, our church sent out a mailing to five of the apartment buildings within eyesight of our church, inviting their inhabitants to some of our services. That is over 600 residences! We have had several people show up to our services as a result of receiving one of those letters, and some have been coming regularly for a couple of weeks now.
With an influx of young children in our church, we were able to produce a Christmas drama this year. Andrea directed it, and we had about fifteen kids involved in acting out the Christmas story and singing.  It was a blessing to all, and provided another opportunity for family members of those involved to hear the Gospel.
2024 is already off to a good start! By the end of last year, I had several people asking me about becoming members. We had just finished a new membership class in July and August, but they had missed it and were wanting to join, so I started another class on the first afternoon in January. In these classes we discuss the benefits and responsibilities of being a church member. We also look at our philosophy of ministry, our history, and doctrinal statement. I encourage people, whom I suspect are unbelievers, to join this class just to learn what our church is all about and what it is that we believe as Christians. In the previous cycle of the class, there was one young man who I was quite certain was not saved at the beginning of the class. By the end, however, he had called upon the Lord Jesus Christ. He has since been baptized, become a member of our church, and started sharing the Gospel with his family and co-workers. As in that July/August class, there is at least one in this present class whom I suspect does not yet know the Lord. Please pray that God will open this person’s eyes and heart as we explain the basic teachings of the Bible!
As always, we appreciate your prayers and faithful support. Without Him we can do nothing!
