Three Adventures, Wise Counsel and Gospel Ministry

Denver and Jackson
The last week of January, Deb and I traveled to Denver, Colorado and Jackson, Wyoming for family reasons. While in the Denver area, we met with our spiritual father and mentor, Hal Miller (93). I used the occasion to ask Hal how he was able to make the many tough transitions needed in his ministry life. After deep thought he said, “I have always tried to do what the Lord told to me to do.” That was helpful. Hal continues to disciple us.

While in Jackson Hole, the home of Teton National Park, which is the place where God first began to speak to my heart, I spent time reflecting and asking for future guidance. God seemed to confirm in my heart three directives: 1) rather than disappear, engage, 2) rather than step back, take the offense, 3) rather than give in, exercise extreme discipline.
Pray for me please.

Arizona
My brother, Bob, and his wife, Eileen, invited Deb and me to attend the annual meetings of their organization—Global Trainers Network. GTN basically consists of retirement-age Christian servants who travel the globe training Christian leaders. The meetings were a great blessing. The message was clear:  We should be in it to the end. The founder of the mission put it something like this, “If it is broken, fix it. If you get injured, rehabilitate it. If it needs replaced, do so, but be in it to the end.” He also reminded us, that at our age, we need to pace ourselves. Very helpful, indeed. I also asked an 80-year-old speaker, at the preconference Soul Care workshop, how he continued to vibrantly serve at his age. He said, “ Flourish in every area of your life.” Again, a very helpful bit of insight.

Kurdistan
On Thursday of this week, Deb and I will drive to Des Moines, where we will take a flight from Houston to Qatar,

and then to Sulaymaniyah, (Kurdistan) Iraq. We will be ministering in the refugee centers and teaching both to the Bible institute and to advanced level students for three hours a day for ten days. The topics are our favorites: Evangelism and Global Church Planting. I am so thankful for these opportunities to be part of this strategic ministry, which is in the middle of an Islamic civilization. These believers are starting churches in their cities and refugee centers. They are also impacting the region around Sulaymaniyah.

We need prayer for health, endurance, and safety,

Bill and Deb (in it to the end)
