FAITHFUL OVER A LITTLE

“His master said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant. You have been faithful over a little; I will set you over much. Enter into the joy of your master.’” (Mt 25:21, ESV).

A number of years ago I preached on this passage from Matthew and was challenged to stay faithful in the small tasks God gives me. Since I last wrote, we started classes at the seminary and are now in the middle of the semester. We don’t have any big news items, but here are a few highlights from the last few months:
  • God was faithful in helping me preach four times at our Baptist fellowship’s annual Bible conference.
  • Holly spoke at two different ladies’ meetings in Bogota.
  • The attendance at the church plant (Roca Eterna) has been about 50 the last few weeks. We are thankful for how God is working in people’s lives. Holly and I continue to lead worship, and I preached last Sunday and will preach again this coming Sunday.
  • The women of Roca Eterna had their first ladies’ meeting.

PRAYER NEEDS
Here are some requests for which we would appreciate prayer:

– Each semester our seminary takes a missions trip to some part of Colombia. My coworker Daniel asked me to lead the next trip, so pray for Holly and me as this will be our first trip in that role. We will be traveling to two towns several hours away to share the gospel and learn from Pastor Eduardo and Pastor Alejandro. The dates are Nov. 28th to Dec. 4th. These trips are designed to give our students a vision for ministry throughout the country. They have three main purposes: to learn, to encourage the pastors and their families, and to serve.

– I’ll be traveling to Santa Marta (October 10-12) for a missions conference with Impacto Bíblico.

-Pastor Eduardo invited me to speak at our fellowship’s couples’ retreat on October 13th.

-I would appreciate prayer for the upcoming course on Romans I will be teaching online and on campus (October-November).

-Please continue praying for the book I am writing on Bible interpretation. I’ve been working on it little by little and am now writing chapter 3.

Home Group Meeting at Diego’s Restaurant

It has been a blessing to see Diego open his restaurant for a couple of home group meetings. We rejoice to see how God continues to transform lives!
CULTURAL NOTE
Colombia has two days to remember their independence. July 20th is the official day, celebrating when they declared their independence in 1810, and August 7th is the holiday to celebrate when they won their independence in 1819. Continue to pray for the peace of Colombia, especially for the presidential elections next year.
KIDS’ CORNER
Marcos (16) changed sports about two months ago. He hung up his soccer cleats and has been practicing taekwondo since then. He has enjoyed the sport more than soccer because he says there is more respect shown by his fellow athletes. Continue to pray for his future, as he has about two more years before graduating from high school.
Yours for Colombia and the gospel,

Jonathan, Holly, Marcos, and Jason Boyd
